Fortnite v42.10 Update: September 3 Patch Notes
Downtime and Release Time
Fortnite update v42.10 drops on Thursday, September 3, 2026, as the first major content update of Chapter 7 Season 4 since the Override season launched on August 20. Downtime starts at 4 AM ET and usually ends by 6 AM ET, with matchmaking disabled about 30 minutes before maintenance. The update pairs with the launch of OG Season X and the LEGO Fortnite Batman event, so September 3 is the busiest day of the season so far. Plan your play session for after the servers come back to get the new content first.
Three New Sprites
The update adds three new Sprites to Chapter 7 Season 4. The X-Ray Sprite lets you see players through walls, and the Onigiri Sprite gives bonus health from consumables and replaces the Bullet Sprite, which Epic removed on August 31. A third Knight-themed Sprite also joins the lineup. Two of the new Sprites are Design-A-Sprite contest winners by creators Avila215 and Enorull. New Sprites usually appear right after the update goes live, so check the Sprite spawns on the island once the servers are up.
Big Heads and Prop Hunt Overrides
Two new Match Overrides come in v42.10. Big Heads brings back the April Fools style oversized heads for players, and Prop Hunt turns players into props that blend into the environment. Match Overrides rotate in and out, so catch them while they are live if they are your kind of mode. These overrides build on the season's rotating content system that already includes Cheat Code Day and Power Hours, giving players more ways to mix up each match.
New Loot Hacks and Weapons
v42.10 introduces new Loot Hacks: Rocket Ram, Gold Banana, and Tracking Visor. The Loot Hack weapon pool also expands with the Holo Twister Assault Rifle, the Deadeye Assault Rifle, and the Wrecker Revolver. Loot Hacks are unlocked with Sprite Dust before they start appearing in chests, so bank your dust ahead of the update to unlock the new weapons fast. This keeps the Override economy central to how the season's loot works.
The Sprite Garden
The update also opens the Sprite Garden, a collection area where you can view every Sprite you have gathered since Chapter 7 Season 3. It works as a living collection log tied to your account, so the Sprites you unlock in past seasons stay visible. If you collect Sprites or just want to track your progress, the Sprite Garden gives you a single place to check what you own. It fills in over time as you catch more Sprites during the season.
What to Prioritize After the Update
After v42.10 goes live, prioritize the new Sprites and Loot Hacks first. New Sprites are rare at launch and usually have event rewards attached, and the new Loot Hacks need Sprite Dust to unlock. Pair this with the Thursday weekly quest refresh at 9 AM ET to get the most out of one session. If you want the new weapons in your loadout early, spend your stored Sprite Dust on the fresh Loot Hacks as soon as the update lands.
