Update 42.00 Overview

The early patch notes for Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override (Update 42.00) have been released, giving players a detailed look at everything coming to the island when the season launches on August 20, 2026.

Update 42.00 is one of the largest updates in Fortnite history, featuring a complete map overhaul, new gameplay mechanics, an incredible lineup of Gaming Legends crossovers, and a brand new Battle Pass.

New Weapons & Items

The Override Rifle is a new mid-range weapon that fires energy projectiles. It excels at medium range with a moderate fire rate and decent magazine size.

The Digital Blaster is a hitscan SMG that deals increased damage to hacked targets. Perfect for aggressive players who utilize the new hacking mechanic.

New Sprites & Gameplay Changes

The Hack-a-Bot is a unique gadget that allows players to temporarily hack and override enemy builds, vehicles, and traps. This is the signature new mechanic of the Override season.

Override Sprites are rare new Sprites that grant players a temporary hacking ability when collected. Sentinel Sprites patrol the map and mark enemy locations.

Map Changes & New POIs

The map has been completely transformed with a Gaming Legends theme. New POIs include a Sonic-themed speed zone, a gaming arena area, and digital glitch zones across the island.

The Battle Pass features 100+ tiers with the Tier 1 'The Override' skin, Tier 100 'Neon Hacker' skin, and Gaming Legends collab skins including Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot.

Update 42.00 is estimated to be 15-25 GB on PC. Downtime begins around 2:00 AM ET on August 20, with the season going live approximately 2-4 hours later.

The Override Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks and includes 100 tiers of rewards. Gaming Legends collab skins confirmed via leaks and data mining: Sonic the Hedgehog (Tier 50-70), Crash Bandicoot (Tier 80-100), and Tails (Tier 30-50). The Tier 1 skin "The Override" and Tier 100 skin "Neon Hacker" are original designs. The secret bonus skin "Codebreaker" is unlocked through weekly challenges. Collab skins in the Item Shop include Persona 5 Joker, Spyro, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Sora, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow.
